Some (more) sad news...

I don't mean to be the bearer of more sad news... but today's event was really a shocker for me. One of my good running partners (Jim) for the past 3+ years unexpectedly passed away in his sleep early this morning (approx 4-5am). According to his wife, he suffered a heart attack. Jim just turned 50 a few months ago.

I just can't believe my friend Jim is gone! It was just yesterday morning at 6am, a group of us met at Woodbridge High School, and we started out on the BackBay trail for our long Saturday morning run. Jim ran really strong for the entire run with no issues. As a matter of fact, he has been training very well lately and posted a really good race time at the Disneyland half marathon earlier this month. Jim was on his way back to being in top prime shape as he was over 2 years ago. Yesterday morning's run was just another typical weekend run for us. How could things end up this way???

I will truly miss my running partner on my future runs. Eventhough our "race to glory" ended abruptly today, he will always be in my thoughts and memories. Jim, on behalf of our running group, we wish you well on your new journey. You will be missed :(

Moment of silence, please.

We just heard last night that one of Christine's friends from Hawaii passed away from cancer. This wasn't really a shock for us because Christine had been in contact with her friend for the past 2 years now on this. When her friend was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago, the doctor said he may have another 6 months left. Fortunately, her friend was able to enjoy another 2 years with his family and kids. While we were on our Hawaii vacation a few weeks ago, Christine had heard that her friend was moved from the hospital back to his home. He could no longer walk. It was simply just a matter of time. Christine's friend finally passed away on August 30. My heart goes out to his family in Hawaii.

Time is what we are all fighting against nowadays. There's never enough time to do this or that in all of our daily lives. I have to remind myself to appreciate what I have (especially my family, wife, and kids) and enjoy life to its fullest everyday. This sounds like a cliche but are you enjoying your time to its fullest as well? Please help me observe a moment of silence for Christine's friend's family in Hawaii. Thanks!

Chameleon or Gecko(?) eating a cockroach

Filmed while in Hawaii. Approx 2 mins.

Guess who's enjoying some more sun before school starts this week?

And, doing some sand turtle art! The giant shoe above was made by another group of kids. I thought it was pretty creative.
